5 Things You’ll Love about Arizona
Both Ron and I transplant to Arizona, as are many of our clients. We chose to live here because, in spite of the summer heat, there are some things about Arizona that can’t be overstated.
Hello, this is Penny Bussing, Ron and I hope you’re doing well! We’re reaching out to our friends and clients that we have felt so separated from over the last couple of years, due to COVID. We’ll be posting from time to time with tips for keeping your home comfortable or improving your property value, or like today, reasons we love Arizona, and our experience here as transplant Arizonans.
The People
Arizonans have their own type of “Southern Charm”, which we’ll just call ‘Wild West Charm’. They are a very welcoming and strait-forward people who value freedom and independence. They say what they mean and expect it in return. Don’t be put off if they tell you exactly what they think of where you’re from, smile, look them in the eye and take it as a strange opening to an earnest conversation and you’ll have a friend for life. Arizonans are in love with the fact that everything here is trying to kill you, from the baking heat, to the torrential (if few) rainstorms, as well as every venomous bug, lizard, snake cactus tree, and bush. It’s an exciting place to live and all who dare are welcome here!
The Climate
Thanks to our mountains and distance from any significant faults, you won’t have to worry about hurricanes, tornados, or earthquakes. You won’t even have to worry about seasons as the only two we recognize are summer and fall. Yes, at times it can feel a little like living inside of a hairdryer with summer temperatures from the low 90s to low 120s, it’s not much of a problem because every car, building and even some bus stops have air conditioning. It’s rare that you will have to spend any time in the direct August afternoon sunlight, and if you’ve ever been to Florida you’ll understand why our dry heat is better than muggy heat. During our cooler months, September through March, you’ll enjoy beautiful mild weather that never gets too close to cold in the valley, but will bring snow and even skiing opportunities further north in the mountains.
The Desert
There is so much to do outside in Arizona! If you’re looking for a place to land as a snowbird, there is nowhere better to winter than here. Anywhere in the Valley that you decide to live is minutes away from amazing hikes and not too far from lakes or the salt river, either. Hiking bicycle trails, motorcycle rides, offroading on quads or side by sides, fishing, kayaking, or water skiing, there is a lot to do here all year round. If you want to stay a little closer to town, there are beautiful parks, ponds, and golf courses everywhere you look.
Cost of Living
Living in Arizona as opposed to a place like California saves you a lot of money! The tax rate alone here is about 40% lower than in California and because we produce our own electricity, you never have to worry about brown-outs or black-outs. Homes cost significantly less in AZ than in California and you get a lot more for your money, as long as your top priority isn’t being within walking distance from the beach.
Job Market
Thanks to our low tax rate for businesses, many companies have moved and are now building locations in and around the Phoenix area. Whether you’re in the automotive, engineering, creative, or retail industries, there is work for you to do here.
Ron and I hope that you’re loving your time here in Arizona as much as we are, and if you find yourself away from it, take this article as 5 good reasons to come back and see us! Let us know how you’re doing and we hope to hear from you soon.
I can’t thank you guys enough for finding me a home here. I love Arizona and would not move back to Oregon for all the money in the world. You guys are awesome. There is so much to do here compared to Oregon because of the weather itself. Plus I love living close to my daughter and granddaughter. Thanks again!
